Malie is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) and Clinical Nurse Consultant with 25+ years of nursing experience. Awarded People's Choice CDE of the Year in 2024, Malie supports patients living with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes through education, planning and ongoing care. Consults Friday fortnightly at Botanic Ridge.
Malie migrated to Australia from Sri Lanka in 2005 and completed her Bachelor of Nursing locally. She has over 25 years of nursing experience and has worked across major hospitals in Victoria including Nhill Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital and Monash Hospital.
After completing her Postgraduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management in 2012, Malie practises as a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) and Clinical Nurse Consultant. She was awarded the People's Choice CDE of the Year 2024.
Initial education for newly-diagnosed type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. Medication, monitoring, lifestyle.
Insulin initiation, dose adjustment, injection technique, hypoglycaemia recognition and treatment.
Continuous Glucose Monitor (Dexcom G6/G7, FreeStyle Libre 2/3) education and insulin pump support.
Diet, exercise, monitoring and insulin (where needed) during pregnancy. Postnatal follow-up.
Annual diabetes cycle of care — eyes, feet, kidneys, cardiovascular. Sick day management.
Education for partners, parents and carers of people living with diabetes.
Diabetes Educator consultations are with Malie, Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE). Sessions support patients living with type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes.
Most patients are referred via a CDM plan or directly by their GP. Self-funded appointments are also available.
Malie reviews your diabetes history, glucose patterns, medications, lifestyle and goals. Bring any recent HbA1c results.
Topics may include carbohydrate counting, insulin titration, continuous glucose monitoring, sick-day management or pre-pregnancy planning.
Malie works alongside your GP, endocrinologist (if applicable), dietitian and podiatrist to provide joined-up care.

Diabetes education attracts a private fee. Patients with a CDM plan from their GP receive a Medicare rebate (up to 5 rebated Allied Health visits per calendar year). NDIS and DVA accepted. The National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) provides subsidised supplies separately.
Bulk-billed consultations for eligible Medicare patients. Some procedures may attract a private fee — please contact reception to confirm costs at booking. Open 7 days, walk-ins accommodated where possible.
