CDE · Clinical Nurse Consultant

Malie migrated to Australia from Sri Lanka in 2005 and completed her Bachelor of Nursing locally. She has over 25 years of nursing experience and has worked across major hospitals in Victoria including Nhill Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital and Monash Hospital.

After completing her Postgraduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management in 2012, Malie practises as a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) and Clinical Nurse Consultant. She was awarded the People's Choice CDE of the Year 2024.

How your appointment typically flows.

Diabetes Educator consultations are with Malie, Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE). Sessions support patients living with type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes.

i.

Book via your GP

Most patients are referred via a CDM plan or directly by their GP. Self-funded appointments are also available.

ii.

Initial review (60 min)

Malie reviews your diabetes history, glucose patterns, medications, lifestyle and goals. Bring any recent HbA1c results.

iii.

Tailored education

Topics may include carbohydrate counting, insulin titration, continuous glucose monitoring, sick-day management or pre-pregnancy planning.

iv.

Coordinated follow-up

Malie works alongside your GP, endocrinologist (if applicable), dietitian and podiatrist to provide joined-up care.

Transparent pricing & bulk billing.

Diabetes education attracts a private fee. Patients with a CDM plan from their GP receive a Medicare rebate (up to 5 rebated Allied Health visits per calendar year). NDIS and DVA accepted. The National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) provides subsidised supplies separately.

Do I need a GP referral?
Not strictly required for self-funded appointments. A CDM plan referral unlocks the Medicare rebate.
Can Malie help with insulin pumps?
Yes — Malie has experience supporting patients on multiple-dose insulin and pump therapy.
Is Malie a nurse?
Yes — Malie is also a Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) with over 25 years of nursing experience. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management.
How often will I see her?
Frequency depends on your goals. Newly diagnosed patients may benefit from 3–4 sessions in the first months; stable patients may review annually.
